An iconic feature of Filipiniana clothing, these hand-sewn Terno Sleeves are an expression of identity and addresses the artists' diasporic experience.
The terno was popularized in the Tagalog region of the Philippines. Tagalog (region and language), is derived from the phrase taga-ilog, meaning river dweller. The images featured in the work were taken and sourced during a recent trip to the Philippines where I retraced the steps of my ancestors, walking the sites where their houses once stood and visiting the land where they once cultivated food and the riverbeds they once inhabited.
