Printed on a single and continuous length of linen, As far as maps will take us, documents a phone call between my mother and I as we walked from my family’s ancestral home in the Philippines to the edge of its farmland. My mother, recalling her childhood memories of the walk in her mind’s eye; myself, navigating through google maps. While never having been to the Philippines and my mother leaving at a time when there were still no street names, we found common ground through landmarks and detailed descriptions; the elementary school her mother helped to build, the avocado tree that arched over the property, the guava tree she use to climb, the row of houses she sold vegetables to. Across generations, across memory and place - we walk and experience together.
